Hi everyone,
I’ve been a volunteer patient advocate for family and friends for the past 15+ years, and now I want to make it official and work as an independent patient health advocate. I was raised by two ICU nurses so our dinner table conversation consisted of hashing out different medical complexities, stumbling blocks in the healthcare…[Read more]

Katy Orlando replied to the topic 92 yr old unsafe discharge in the forum Confidential Case Discussion 1 year ago
Hello Michael,
I know when I’ve had similar obstacles, I make sure all communication is in writing and not phone calls because it gets shoved under the carpet. If things escalate and management is broken down, I usually file a grievance in the hospital or facility and if a family wants to go further I make them aware of CDPH grievances.
I a…[Read more] -

Situation: 92 yr old currently in the hospital (CA) is being bullied to discharge (ER on Friday night, admitted later that next morning) to a SNF to continue IV meripenem treatment (for MDR urinary infection).
Family has been in and out of this and another hospital (which has discriminated and withheld treatment due to patient’s age) in the c…[Read more]

Hi. I agree with Stephanie, I like the “Redefined Advocacy and Consulting”. I think it also gives you the flexibility to grow and shift as our practices always do! I have to admit I didn’t get the capitalized “R” and “N” until I read what Steph wrote :). Thanks, love it!

Why are they suing?
I have had success with several Kaiser clients where we got what Kaiser was unwilling to do (e.g., being treated outside of Kaiser, getting second opinions outside of Kaiser, getting treatment faster and with more diagnostic testing than what Kaiser wanted, etc.).

I have a client that is in arbitration with Kaiser in California and she is in need of an attorney. She’s been turned down by many because no one wants to take on Kaiser. Any thoughts or suggestions for this. Any referral to a possible attorney?

Finding truly co-occurring competent residential treatment programs for young adults is a large challenge. Few programs have the required expertise. Fewer still have the needed quality of service. It is rare that there is insurance coverage and the cost of treatment is quite high.

Thank you for posting this!
You have great questions and love that you are thinking ahead. I think it is smart to look at getting it set up sooner to save you on your investment in time and money.
