This my work-in-progress elevator pitch:
We are a private patient advocacy concierge providing healthcare navigation services to adults and children. We can help you at any point in your medical journey to understand and make the most of your healthcare options.
Some notes:
“Concierge” has a few meanings but one of them is a personalized med…[Read more] -

I know your business name is still a work in progress so I won’t comment except to say that reading your placeholder name makes me think a tagline could be very useful toward succinctly describing a big thing (patient advocacy) using word economy. So far, I have not hit on the right combination of company name and tagline using word economy but I…[Read more]

Just read the additional article on elevator pitches. It said that because people have shorter and shorter attention spans, they recommend shortening the elevator pitch. Here’s the new one:
“We teach people how to navigate the medical healthcare system and avoid or manage medical debt. We work with patients and loved ones who are new to dealing…[Read more]

I would welcome any and all feedback, especially critiques. The business name is still a work in progress.
Hi, I’m Emily, and I founded The Healthcare Experts. We provide navigational support to people overwhelmed by the medical system. We provide it sometimes to patients with a new diagnosis and sometimes to loved ones of patients. They need our…[Read more]

I am starting out with my niche being patients who have newly been diagnosed with cancer or a chronic medical condition. I feel like these are the people who will gain the most from my education about how to navigate the medical system.
Target Audience – Cancer patients
As the spouse of a cancer patient, I know the fear and uncertainty of what is…[Read more] -
Julie Kochenderfer replied to the topic Interesting article from today's APHA Webinar: Evolution of Patient Advocacy in the forum APHA Academy 100 Days to Launch
(Summer 2025) 1 week, 2 days ago
Hi Steph,
This article is golden. Thank you very much for providing this information on the historical development of patients’ rights and patient advocacy. I recently finished the Practice Up course< Overcoming Objections, and this statement in the article is very apt and very well said in regard to hospital-paid advocates, “…while most hos…[Read more] -
Julie Kochenderfer replied to the topic Lesson 7 – Setting Your Price in the forum APHA Academy 100 Days to Launch
(Summer 2025) 1 week, 5 days ago
I was relieved to learn that there are better ways to approach pricing than to simply quote an hourly rate. I feel that most potential clients don’t really understand how private patient advocacy works and if I told them it costs $xxx per hour it would be up to them to imagine if that could possibly help them with F.U.D.G.E. But a conversation a…[Read more]

Hahaha, the say it out loud a lot is so true!
I thought in several names, said those names loudly enough as to have my daughter and husband saying if they liked it or not, and then I finally picked one: Perseverance Patient Advocacy LLC. Because this journey will be like a roller coaster, and us Advocates must persevere!
As Emily, I registered…[Read more]

Budgets are tricky! Especially when you are just starting and trying to figure out what you need and what you want that you can afford.
As you move through this course, make adjustments to your budget sheet. There are some things that you HAVE to have and some things are more of a wish list.
The costs of your state’s start up business licensing…[Read more]

Thanks for sharing your skills list!
The tasks that you are listing as your weakness or the need to delegate are very common for advocates who start their practice, so I am glad you are here! Hopefully, you will feel more confident and ready to tackle some of these new areas.
Depending on your start up budget, you may not be able to delegate as…[Read more]

These are great goals, Wendy!
I feel it is very important to have a plan in these areas and also be ready to adjust as needed. It is so hard to anticipate how the flow will work day to day. You have such a vast list of experiences and service goals, you may find yourself focusing on a more narrow scope once you get going. There is such a great…[Read more]

I understand what you are saying and there is a lot to consider when it comes to pricing.
I 100% agree with not quoting in isolation. I always explain that there are so many factors in determining a price and people are usually very willing to have a conversation to learn more.
Many advocates do charge more for fewer hours or in other words……[Read more]

Thanks for sharing this story, Emily!
Coming up with a name is so much fun AND can be stressful! I am so glad you took this course as well to learn about all of the things to check and consider 😉
When I came up with my business name I knew I wanted the word voice in it somewhere, somehow. I had pages of names related to healthcare and advocacy…[Read more]

I thought that I was ahead in the game because I had gone through so many different ideas of names over that last year. I had finally decided on a name. It sounded so good and sounded like it was very clear on what I was doing and offering. It didn’t limit my practice to my name. It didn’t limit my practice to only being me. It left room for me to…[Read more]
