Patient Perspectives: Ehlers Danlos Syndrome with Emily Rubenstein February 2024 Join us for a discussion with Emily Rubenstein who is here to share her story and help educate the APHA community about hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). On-Demand Recording: 50 minutes /*! elementor – v3.19.0 – 29-01-2024 */ .elementor-widget-image{text-align:center}.elementor-widget-image a{display:inline-block}.elementor-widget-image a img[src$=”.svg”]{width:48px}.elementor-widget-image img{vertical-align:middle;display:inline-block} Emily Rubenstein was diagnosed with hypermobile Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (hEDS) and endometriosis in 2022 after years of searching for an explanation for her chronic and worsening symptoms. Given how challenging her own experience has been, she is interested in how she can help others with chronic illness—diagnosed and yet to be diagnosed—advocate for themselves and receive the care they deserve. Emily works at the Aspen Institute, where she leads the Food Leaders Fellowship and previously supported the Health Innovators Fellowship. Prior to Aspen, she worked in educational testing and research. Emily received her bachelor’s from Harvard, where she studied education policy.https://vimeo.com/917979626 Additional Resources Emily’s talk at the Externally Led Patient-Focused Drug Development Meeting CINK Center PRISM Spine & Joint: Home – P.R.I.S.M. TrueHLTH Partnership: Join us to support a new patient navigation platform February 2024 Watch the recap with the TrueHLTH founder (and APHA member), Scott Genone. Learn more about the team’s motivation for starting this new patient navigation platform and their vision for how patient advocates will contribute. It’s not too late to participate in the TrueHLTH partnership to provide advocacy to chronic disease patients through their new platform. The initial focus is on IBD, so we are especially looking for advocates with experience navigating Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis. But even if you don’t have those experiences, you can still participate. We’re working on training modules that will help bridge knowledge gaps for advocates who have experience with chronic condition advocacy (clinical and/or financial) but not with IBD specifically. If you’re interested, please fill out this brief survey and we will send you more details. Hi @LBeck805 – Thanks for your comment but I’d like to give a little context since your suggestion doesn’t always fit the situation. Since Dena and I took over APHA, the way we approach it is to ask the writer/reporter how they want to connect with advocates. Sometimes, they want us to field interest and forward advocate contact information so…[Read more]
