Hi Kathy – you mentioned that he is a veteran – is he enrolled in VA medical benefits?
According to the VA site:
Hospice is a benefit that the VA offers to qualified Veterans who are in the final phase of
their lives, typically six months or less. This multi-disciplinary team approach helps
Veterans live fully until they die. The…[Read more] -

I thought Hiscox was great, I have the same rate and the application was seamless, I would encourage others to check into that option.

Hi Kathy,
So it is typical that insurance will not cover room and board charges for inpatient hospice. Does he have assets? Does he qualify for Medicaid? Will the facility accept him as a Medicaid pending patient and accept an estimated patient liability? These are some of the questions that come to mind immediately.Feel free to call me to…[Read more]

One option to consider would be hospice services at a SNF. Medicare covers SNF stays after 3 nights in hospital and many private insurers follow suit.

Insurance does not pay room and board at inpatient hospice facilities. They will pay for the hospice medical care.

Hello,
A young lady called me, her father is in the hospital and being transferred to an inpatient hospice facility. The facility said his Blue Cross Blue Shield policy would not cover it. He is not on Medicare. He is a veteran. He does not have a LTC policy. She is trying to find a way to get it paid for and is worried about losing his…[Read more]

Did anyone try my E&O provider in Austin, TX? They said they would try to help. I’ll message them to see if they have any chance of group rates? After all, they took a chance on me back in 2014–so maybe they would help us out?

Gail – if you still hold your RN license, I think you would be eligible for the NSO insurance? The information you will need is on the Carriers page (available to Premium members.)

We can try to troubleshoot this for you.

I agree-the cost would be prohibitive for me as a new business. Fingers crossed we find another solution!

Raye, let me know what you think. I was told by them that since I hold a current, (or even as a retired), RN, I could not utilize the Social Work policy. I’m getting nervous about this as this is the sixth or seventh company I have made inquiries with.

Ugh, I was just getting ready to finally get insured now that I am actually getting clients. I just called Hiscox and they looked at my website and said they would not able to insure me.
I will call back and try the social work category that someone mentioned above -

Obtaining a kidney transplant is actually a highly political process within transplant centers in major medical centers nationwide. A candidate, while in need, will only be accepted if the odds are high his/her transplant will be successful. Each insurance company has a network of transplant centers it will work with, so it’s important to know i…[Read more]

And while attorneys are not allowed in small claims court…here’s an example of how attorneys figure into this:
Our older daughter is an attorney who goes to court for her clients all the time. My husband had a video production producer who refused to pay him. She advised him on how to document everything so the judge would rule in his favor.…[Read more]
