Great and valuable discussion here!
I have a message out to an independent HSA Administrator to see if we can get some additional clarification.
In the meantime, I believe that the documentation required to withdrawal funds from the HSA is determined by the individual administrator. Some admins require supportive documentation and some do not.…[Read more]

Has anyone had any success with air ambulance balance billing? If so, I’d love to chat! I’ve been working a Med Trans/UHC case for months and I’m not having much luck. My client is located in SC and the service was from 2020. The case has been under review with UHC since early October and they continue to drag their feet.

Good morning, all!
We have a few articles to share with you on the No Surprises Act that went into effect on January 1, 2022.
This is the first step in the right direction to protect patients from unexpected medical bills; however, we all know that this is just the tip of the iceberg. I feel that there are other topics that need to be included…[Read more]

Hi,
Rebecca referred to me as an expert in the HSA insurance area. I have a law degree in health law which covers a wide range of health law topics. But I am not an attorney nor an expert in insurance. Sorry, I can’t weigh in on any of this. -

Melanie —- I have a similar experience! Fee schedule management is a job of its own but it was only one of the many hats that I had to were at one particular job. Back in my early days, I was the administrator over the practice management system for a large multi-specialty clinic. There were different negotiations with all insurance companies.…[Read more]

My experience with my own HSA so far is that the service must be a qualified service that could be billable through insurance. Every time I use my HSA , I get a request for additional information such as a EOB showing what the insurer paid. Exceptions for this would be Prescriptions which are automatically reported to my insurer and FSA qualified…[Read more]

Another thought I would like to share,
It seems that many are using the same broker/insurer and as we all know things go wrong, levels of service change especially if the company is purchased out and we are experiencing a very volatile time in the insurance industry.I would like to recommend that those doing research; who happen to find other…[Read more]

I am a little concerned as I have seen post in this thread regarding various categories used for their insurance policy.
Working for insurance companies in the past it is extremely important that you look beyond pricing. Each category and policy will have inclusions for coverage and more importantly exclusions for coverage. If you purchase the…[Read more] -

You are right, Annette. Non-responsiveness is unacceptable. Now that I’m back in the saddle (not sure if you have seen this news https://aphadvocates.org/future ) I am beginning to hear about more problems that I was not privy to over the past several months.
So – I am trying to play catch up for problems from the last quarter of 2021 – and…[Read more]

I think there have been ample examples of Kyle not acting in the best interest of advocates. Whether it is as a result of not accessing the information or not, his lack of attentiveness to the timeliness of renewal etc is not acceptable. I was contacted 1/4 for my policy that expires 1/20. I was told my Markel policy would not be renewable, but to…[Read more]

Thank you Trisha!I worked with a professional to get my LinkedIn profile running and WOW!!!! What a difference it has made! (and I still have a few “to-do” items on my list)

Hi Trisha, I have sent 4 emails and left several voice mails for Kyle in an attempt to renew my policy. He found something with Hiscox and has subsequently “disappeared”. Is there another way to reach him or do you know if there someone else in that office who can assist? This is incredibly frustrating.

Annette – please check the latest information about carriers: https://myapha.org/centers/insurance-for-your-practice/providers/ We have contact information there for someone who can help you with Lloyds.
(For those who are reading this and don’t know Annette, please note the MD after her name – which presents her with a bigger insurance hurdle…[Read more]

Gail – you’ve gotten lots of good suggestions here. If you want to collect through your website, I’ll also add Stripe to the mix. We’ve just changed over APHA’s payment systems to Stripe because they keep a smaller % of the payment than Paypal does.
Please note that no one reported accepting checks. It’s not that you can’t or shouldn’t, it’s…[Read more]

I want to check out Square! And I’ve always heard that if I captured credit cards, I had to pay for more security for my website? I’ll have to research this!

I mostly use Square to collect payments and that has gone well. One client preferred Paypal so I have used that for that particular client. I have also accepted checks.

True confession….
In my past life I was a practice manager for a group of surgeons. We were contracted with PPO’s and HMO’s. I routinely negotiated rates for the most frequently performed procedures. I noticed that some insurers reimbursement was higher than the fee we routinely charged. Much higher. In a meeting with my docs they lamen…[Read more]
