I have a Medical POA client in Lancaster

an atty to help with finalizing her will and to serve as Executor. Her Durable Healthcare POA, POLST, and Advance Directive are in place.

Or, ideas on how to get a…[Read more] -

Althea P. Halchuck, EJD, CT, BCPA replied to the topic Malpractice call in the forum General Conversation 1 year, 11 months ago
Hi Katy,
I received the same call from her. You are correct; this is not something patient advocates do.
I studied med mal in law school and have done med mal mediations in the past. When she told me she had contacted every med mal lawyer near her, I figured there either was no case or the experienced lawyers didn’t want to take the case because…[Read more] -

I agree with Linda Beck. You could do a lot of work and find out the family has no authority to pay you, or a family member challenges your decisions. Sticky and messy at this point.
Let the family get their ducks in a row before you do anything. These are legal issues best untangled by an expert. -

Thanks, Trish,
Videos are a great idea. Videos also show the person had capacity when they made the video, thus eliminating an objection about whether the person knew what they were signing or saying at the time.
It’s also a good idea to have the client record their advance directive for the same reasons. They are to be used as backups in case…[Read more] -

I appreciate you answering this question again and providing the links! I am a professional Medical POA and a BCPA, but I don’t perform both services for one client. I saw on a forum that someone reached out to the PAC BD about it and got this response:
“Although PACB’s Ethics committee is working on a position statement on this topic, it has not…[Read more] -

Just an FYI, I contacted Go Daddy and they said my webside builder was for marketing and NOT ADA compliant and I would have to start over and rebuild. They suggested I re-build in WordPress and I can edit there. Seems like a lot of time, money and rebuilding.

In her case, it was a sloShe was always coldw mover but in the end, she was completely disabled and bedridden for the last couple years. They were very involved with the Scleroderma…[Read more]

I was a LT Care Ombud for 7 years, I have health law degree, and I am a long-time hospice volunteer. The good ombud can act as a mediator between the family and the facility to get everything on the table and give the lady a voice. The only real power I had was I could threaten to report a facility or admin to the health dept and just the treat…[Read more]

On a personal note, two weeks ago I had cataract surgery on my left eye; today it’s my right eye. Doc said left eye has healed “perfect.” When do you ever hear the word “perfect’ in health care? I’m actually looking forward to having the surgery so both eyes see with the same clarity. The difference is astounding! Colors are sharper, brighter and…[Read more]

I think they started as medical malpractice insurers and have expanded into lots of other health and wellness areas. They insure birth doulas so it was a natural choice to insure death doulas too. I think birth doulas have many more liability issues than death doulas, maybe that’s why the cost is reasonable. Sometimes it’s just semantics and you…[Read more]

I’ve been using them since I started in business in early 2020. I have end-of-life doula professional liability insurance. Most of my services fall under the doula umbrella. I pay less much less for this insurance than my mediator liability with a different agency.
They are a very easy company to work…[Read more] -
