Someone has reached out to us that is beginning chemotherapy and would like to use cold capping services to preserve her hair. She is in California and has a PPO through BS of California. She’s trying to determine if her insurance covers it, but hasn’t been successful in figuring it out. Has anyone had success in getting coverage through Blue…[Read more]

We have met many times and I remember a past case you sent to me.
If any of your cases involve health insurance problems, please keep me in mind.
Besides hospital/doctor bill denials, overcharges and pre-authorizations, I am overturning advanatge plan denials (medical and rehab), as well as…[Read more]

Barbara,
Just a heads up, the email link bounces back. Hence, I am including a copy of what I tried to send here.
Hi Barbara,
I am responding to your posting on Umbra regarding referrals. So sorry to read about your health, but hopefully the break from advocacy will be short and effective.
I would love to be considered. While I am a layperson,…[Read more]

Good suggestion, Anthony – I’d also encourage her to contact the Aging and Disability Resource Center in the area – they may be able to assist with alternate housing and non-medical services. She might qualify for case management through the insurance company that handles her Medi-Cal benefits (the Cal-AIM program) or a local non-profit.

For health reasons, I am planning to refer my clients out to advocates who are interested and meet my criteria.

Jeff, You are technically correct. Faith-based plans are “cost sharing plans” but they serve the same purpose as insurance. I believe they are a joke, as I believe most insurance companies are with the exception of catastrophic coverage. Yhr appeals process for cost sharing plans as well as by regular health insurers are equally biased in fav…[Read more]

Faith based plans are not insurance. That is what cost this person from being covered, they didn’t have to play by insurance rules.

Faith-based insurance plans are no different from regular insurers, in my experience. They use faith as a marketing tactic. Vulnerable consumers buy into it, which is sad Leverage is needed to force ALL insurers to do the right thing and pay legitimate claims. Leverage is a business tactic that will add to advocates’ negotiating abilities. Our p…[Read more]

Hi Dena.
We exhausted all appeals with Medi-Share. They prayed a lot for us and then denied claims. The last I heard from this client they were headed down the path of paying out of pocket for surgery.
Medi-Share advertises on a local radio station and I hear their ads every day about it costing less and people being happier with them… So I…[Read more]

[Warning: saga follows} I guess I have been one of the few served by HPSO through the last 10 years. First a sole practitioner, then an agency owner-operator who utilized contractors ( contactors were required to have insurance and submit a Dec page annually) plus my own liability coverage. It was high, that agency + myself. Last year, I got a te…[Read more]
