Hi all, I’m Tyson Ortiz. Came to healthcare on the patient-side as parent with a child born with complex congenital heart disease. He’s eleven now and doing great, but for years his case was dire and yet I found trying to be engaged in his care was often more stressful than his awful symptoms.
About the same time he was born, in my professional…[Read more]

I don’t often post but this one hit close to my heart. I agree with Trisha’s post 100%. Never having provided cancer or medical navigation in my advocacy business, sitting in the background doing billing and claims and helping folks save their hard-earned dollars, I suddenly found myself being a cancer/medical navigator. A very close friend of…[Read more]

Hello fellow APHA members! I was wondering if anyone has set-up their practice as a not for profit or if you have a not for profit division? I have minimal experience with not for profit organizations but have heard from folks who do have not for profit businesses (not patient advocacy) that they recommend I at least have a division that is…[Read more]

Cancer navigation means a patient is assigned a navigator whose job is to carry out the plans put in place by the doctor and healthcare team (and the insurer), whether or not the patient has participated in making those plans. The patient has little or no autonomy…[Read more]

Very interesting and informative video. Good news but different.
What I gathered per the video, their focus is mainly around getting “non-clinical lay persons” trained and credentialed as a patient navigation to guide cancer patients. Not the same as advocate patient navigators.
They (the American Cancer Society) leaders also are working on…[Read more] -
