If they do not need someone located in town, I would consider being their financial POA. A lot of the financial aspects can be done remotely with a few site visits. I have a degree in accounting and worked as an accountant for many, many years prior to opening up my independent advocacy business.
They would need a lawyer to set up the paperwork for this.

I have found that many clients would rather text or email information rather than deal with a portal. By the time they get to me, they are tired of jumping through hoops.
Portability, the “P” in HIPAA seems to be the overlooked part of that regulation that often seems to have made things way more difficult than they should be.

Technically, we are not governed by HIPAA because we aren’t considered covered entities, but yes, we agree that you should act in accordance with HIPAA protections. These are very painful – I can’t believe they would suggest nothing for an 86 year old. Ask if they can do a paracervical block, the medicine numbs the area and eases pain.
