Adding on to this thread – how have you found a lawyer to review your contracts? The ones I’ve asked to review templates indicated that it wouldn’t be worth their time and wanted larger engagements (retainers). I’m just starting out and so that isn’t something I need yet. Suggestions?

My Austin group that has insured me since 2014, decided that my little policy was too bothersome for them & added a huge admin fee to my renewal??? ARRRGH!
So, I went through the former discussion and called Ruth Linden’s broker, Jerry Becerra.
Jerry walked me through everything & even explained all the language in the policy (we all know how…[Read more]

Good questions, Johanna!
You need a business attorney – not a healthcare attorney. A great resource for finding the right person is to check with your local SCORE, SBA, or SBDC – all groups that help start and build businesses, and all who offer free services (not really free – they are paid for through your own tax dollars!) My personal…[Read more]

On the advice of my attorney, I have a mediation clause but have not had to use it. I have mediated a lot of business diputes so I am a firm believer in the process.

Depending upon your state, you may be much better off in small claims court than mediation (unless it’s court ordered mediation). If your dispute is likely going to be for an amount less than, say, $5,000, then small claims court is likely to be a better venue because: (i) the filing fee is less than you will pay for an hour of a mediator’s time,…[Read more]

Chapter 6 is super informative and is making this all very exciting but I feel like I may need a bit more info on 2 things: attorneys and business formation.

CRGatton replied to the topic Corporate Patient Advocacy Services? in the forum General Conversation 3 years, 5 months ago
As is the case with many disciplines, there is a continuum of service models for patient/health advocacy. Clearly 1:1 advocacy that independent advocates deliver is the highest acuity of service; the fact that there are less acute levels of service that are delivered through a variety of other entities doesn’t make any advocacy delivery model…[Read more]

This question came up from one member of the WS2022 cohort, so I thought I’d better clarify:
Lessons will have varying requests for “homework.” Over the 14 weeks, I’ll ask you to post results here in the forum – or I won’t. I do not ask you to send your task completion answers to me directly.
The assignments that ask you to post here do so…[Read more]

I have a mediation clause if a settlement can not be reached by other reasonable means. If mediation occurs, the cost is shared equally between the client and me.
Thankfully I have never had the opportunity to test this.

I do not. I also stipulate that contract enforcement is subject to the laws in my state (New Jersey) and the client waves any defense on the basis of inconvenience of venue. I added this at the advice of my attorney after I took a client (who resided in CA) to small claims court and he balked at the reasonableness of the location. I won by the way…[Read more]

I have an attorney presently reviewing my Client Engagement Agreement.
I was curious to know how many of you included a Mediation clause in your Client Agreement so that if a client dispute occurs, it must go to mediation first.Thank you.

The team at myjunna changed their verbage in the contract and backed off of the required compliance insurance. They do seem to view us as a covered entity since we are doing business with them. But the verbage is now for insurance where applicable.

HSA dollars are definitely a great idea for those who can put that money away for medical expenses. Great thought about out of network claims also- Thank you for highlighting that point!

This is a great op-ed, Tamara!
Thank you for sharing! For those who may not know, paying cash for these prescriptions can include paying with HSA dollars. I would also consider/investigate the self-filing of an out-of-network claim for possible reimbursement. Of course, this depends on your deductible etc. etc. etc. Certainly, something to…[Read more]
