Hi CarolAnne,
If your client is trying to come to TIRR here in Houston, TX & you clear the path for a transfer (not sounding promising from your description, but there’s always a chance)—be sure & reach out to either me or Angie Galatas (https://medicaladvocacyplus.com/) as we live really close to the TX Med Center & can help with any…[Read more]

Ashley,
(I wanted to respond separately so you’d see this).
Speaking as a palliative care physician (turned advocate), all of your suggestions are wonderful especially the second one about being the primary contact between patient/family and clinical/hospital staff. I can only imagine how great it would be to have someone as an intermediary…[Read more]

CarolAnne,
There is a lot more behind the story you mentioned. This family is litigious (as you’ve been contacted by their legal representative). This is why no one will talk with the family. If they want you to advocate for this patient to get into the better rehab center now, it probably won’t go anywhere because he may be too debilitated to…[Read more]

Hello ADL members –
I just got off the phone with a journalist on a deadline. She’s writing a ‘Tips to Get the Healthcare You Deserve’ article for an AARP-type audience. Please see her note below and if you can respond before end of day June 30, please email your response to one or both questions below and we will pass them along…[Read more]

Hi CarolAnne,
This is a great question! Yes, you’ll need a HIPAA form that authorizes the hospital team to disclose the patient’s protected health information to you. It should be signed by the patient or the patient’s legal representative (if applicable). You also need the service agreement for your own records and for insurance purposes, but I…[Read more]

Melissa Cardine might be able to give you some advice on this case. She presented a case at ICOPA with similarities to your client’s situation: https://www.azpatientadvocacy.com/
I would like to hear how this case works out for you. I have experienced two recent instances of stonewalling from doctors and hospital staff (including Case Managers,…[Read more]

Advise and thoughts please . . .
I’ve been approached by a family (legal) representative to advocate for a patient. Now a quadriplegic as a result of a car accident 8 months ago, this active 68-year old, prior had a successful sales career. He regained bilateral movement from the elbow down. With the assistance of his family, a progressive rehab…[Read more] -

Rebeka- good to know about your experience! That’s strange that there is only an app for end users. I didn’t realize that so that’s helpful information.

I use Healthie as a patient through my dietician and love it. Super easy to send messages, upload documents/test results, track a myriad of things like food intake and activity. The only downside I have seen as an end user is there is no web-based version, its only a phone app.

Thanks Janet – I too am working my way through it but haven’t gone live with it yet. I’d love to connect when you get it up and running and I can do the same. It looks really good on paper but I’m not sure how it will end up being in practice.

Hi Sylvia. Trisha here. Dena asked me to step in to respond to you…
