Emily,
Thanks you for your words about my words! And I’ve got to say that the way you are navigating the word, navigate, to inform about your practice is brilliant!
I’d really like to talk to you by phone or Zoom about some issues we have in common and about how you are approaching your website situation (are you going to make it yourself, or…[Read more]

Yay! Emily, I am so excited for you!
I love the name, and what is most important is that YOU love it and it speaks to you and your mission! You had a unique task to come up with a name that was able to help define your commitment to training not a traditional advocacy business 🙂
Congratulations, a huge step forward and now you can move onward…[Read more]

I think I know the response that you are referring to but I want to go back and re-watch that lesson!
I am happy to respond in a more complete way, adding my two cents, once I have a chance to re-watch it 🙂
Thank you for bringing this up, I am happy to discuss anything that doesn’t sit right!
Oh, and Emily. Did you get my email from the other…[Read more]

I’m struggling with Trisha’s answer for the general public objection to independent patient advocates. The questions are: What about people who can’t afford an advocate? Who helps them?
Her response is that people will in the future, if people begin to demand having an advocate. That our profession needs to grow.
I’m left unsatisfied with that.…[Read more]

Julie, really great work! I can see the time an effort you have put into every single word you are using!
I like the use of the word “concierge”. I think it will be seen as that you will be providing a lot of value and that what you provide is tailored specifically to each individual client. It sounds very fancy! 🙂 The only potential issue I…[Read more]

This my work-in-progress elevator pitch:
We are a private patient advocacy concierge providing healthcare navigation services to adults and children. We can help you at any point in your medical journey to understand and make the most of your healthcare options.
Some notes:
“Concierge” has a few meanings but one of them is a personalized med…[Read more] -

I know your business name is still a work in progress so I won’t comment except to say that reading your placeholder name makes me think a tagline could be very useful toward succinctly describing a big thing (patient advocacy) using word economy. So far, I have not hit on the right combination of company name and tagline using word economy but I…[Read more]

Just read the additional article on elevator pitches. It said that because people have shorter and shorter attention spans, they recommend shortening the elevator pitch. Here’s the new one:
“We teach people how to navigate the medical healthcare system and avoid or manage medical debt. We work with patients and loved ones who are new to dealing…[Read more]

I would welcome any and all feedback, especially critiques. The business name is still a work in progress.
Hi, I’m Emily, and I founded The Healthcare Experts. We provide navigational support to people overwhelmed by the medical system. We provide it sometimes to patients with a new diagnosis and sometimes to loved ones of patients. They need our…[Read more]

I am starting out with my niche being patients who have newly been diagnosed with cancer or a chronic medical condition. I feel like these are the people who will gain the most from my education about how to navigate the medical system.

Hi Steph,
This article is golden. Thank you very much for providing this information on the historical development of patients’ rights and patient advocacy. I recently finished the Practice Up course< Overcoming Objections, and this statement in the article is very apt and very well said in regard to hospital-paid advocates, “…while most hos…[Read more] -
Julie Kochenderfer replied to the topic Lesson 7 – Setting Your Price in the forum APHA Academy 100 Days to Launch <br>(Summer 2025) 1 month ago
I was relieved to learn that there are better ways to approach pricing than to simply quote an hourly rate. I feel that most potential clients don’t really understand how private patient advocacy works and if I told them it costs $xxx per hour it would be up to them to imagine if that could possibly help them with F.U.D.G.E. But a conversation a…[Read more]

Hahaha, the say it out loud a lot is so true!
I thought in several names, said those names loudly enough as to have my daughter and husband saying if they liked it or not, and then I finally picked one: Perseverance Patient Advocacy LLC. Because this journey will be like a roller coaster, and us Advocates must persevere!

Budgets are tricky! Especially when you are just starting and trying to figure out what you need and what you want that you can afford.
As you move through this course, make adjustments to your budget sheet. There are some things that you HAVE to have and some things are more of a wish list.
The costs of your state’s start up business licensing…[Read more]
