Thanks to all for your very thoughtful responses. I too, think I should give them a few months lead time and I have quit taking new clients. Thankfully, I work w/ a group of dedicated and knowledgeable advocates and know I will leave my clients in good hands.

There are guidelines by state but generally they should hold a bed up to 7 days.

Hi Miriam,
I have overturned many Medicare Advantage Plan cases when the commercial insurers
will throw the patient out of the rehab even when they are improving. I go before Medicare judges to help my clients.
Involving the empty room charge, I have never seen that in any of my cases.

Hi:
I have a medicare client in a SNF that was sent to the ER for 2 days (without admission to the hospital). In order for the client to be assured a room at the same SNF when discharged from the ER, they had to pay for the empty room. Medicare did not cover the ’empty room’ charge.
