This is alarming, especially since I am in the process of starting my practice and have a non- clinical background.
This will drive up our prices or otherwise we cannot make this a true business/ profession.IMHO: Insurance companies look for ways to gouge consumers and businrss owners.
I am going to speak to my insurance Broker to see if he has…[Read more] -

@rrlinden I’m sorry to hear about Kyle. I am also using Hiscox but I think its less than what you’re paying Molly. What kind of coverage did you get? When Kyle told me they weren’t offering the coverage anymore and gave me a few names, I didn’t realize how hard it would be to find someone because most companies don’t really understand the scope…[Read more]

When I contacted Kyle about a month ago he suggested I go with Hiscox and that worked for me (I have no licenses). I’m paying ~$75 a month.

I would contact Lisa Berry Blackstock for the medical side (https://profile.advoconnection.com/advocates/stanford-soul-sherpa-healthcare-advocacy/)
And Martine Brousse for the insurance/billing side:
They are both long-time advocates in Southern California & know the ropes there!
Hope this person gets the care they need!

Some history here: When we got started in 2009, there was no such thing as insurance at all for advocates. I tracked down a trusted agent who then worked with a company called One Beacon, and they built a policy for us through our then-insurance advisor. It was a huge boon to our profession!
Ten years later, when we had hundreds (1,000 or so?)…[Read more]

OMG, $3700.00 for insurance. Thank God I am a nurse and can get coverage thru HPSO/NSO. I am so sorry that there isn’t better coverage for the non-nurses. Keep working on this issue.

As AnnMarie stated, we had a nice discussion about approaching NSO (and others) to demonstrate that there is a large, existing “pool” of advocates. The idea is to encourage insurance carriers to develop a specific insurance product for the profession. By approaching insurance carriers as a “union” of sorts, we might have input into the drafting of…[Read more]

What a great idea to negotiate with NSO, I tried them and they wanted nothing to do with Patient Advocates! I experienced 150% rate hike through Kyle this year and he basically told me the same thing your broker did. However, he suggested I try Hiscox, the application online was efficient and I was quoted a fraction of Kyles quote, and a…[Read more]

I have been using a broker for several years (RMcClintock@axisins.com) whose first name is Roberta. My policy has always been underwritten by Lloyds of London which brings me great sleep.
I now pay $3,700 per year which was a huge increase over the prior year due to COVID. As Roberta explained, underwriters are scared of all things healthcare,…[Read more]

Hello Elaine,
Thank you very much for your replies. Markel is the company that bound the policy. Kyle is an agent who works for a company called Risk Placement Services. Although my premium was paid in October 2020, Markel has no record of my policy.
Guess I’ll have to report this to the Illinois Department of Insurance. Sigh…

Has anyone renewed their E&O insurance in the past few months? Kyle, the supposed APHA insurance consultant, has ghosted me and allowed my covereage to expire. If you’d kindly let me kow with whom your coverage has recently been renewed, I be most grateful. I am a non-licensed, not clinician. Kyle evidently got me a quote with Hiscox but I called…[Read more]
