I wanted to remind everyone interested in this to be sure to get up to date with the research and treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome. These poor people who have endured this diagnosis have been dismissed and maligned for years, and now we’re learning that they endure the same symptoms and the same dismissive attitude as long haulers. The…[Read more]

Patient Navigators are usually hired by clinics or organizations to optimize care, especially for those who may be challenged due to social determinants and circumstances. They can help improve transitions between inpatient, ER care, and PCPs. They can play an important role but are not working or advocating for individual patients but are used…[Read more]

I’m surprised that a doctor can demand payment or deny care in the ER. This makes me wonder if facilities will allow moonlighting, or outside contracted providers in their ERs.

Time to get started with real marketing nitty-gritty! We’ll begin with the fundamentals of defining target audiences, deciding what we need to tell them (what they need to know), and then figuring out if we want to develop a marketing niche.

Christie – you said, “Maybe the word is getting out on our value??”
I agree that word is getting out about our value – all good. However! – this article is not representative of what we, as independent advocates, are or do.
This article is about state-funded mammograms. While I love the fact that Delaware is supporting its citizens in this way…[Read more]

So I’m prepping for the PACB exam and I’m needing help really honing in on who the client is in family situations and my role as an advocate.
Say you have a client named Jane and you have an established relationship helping her and her minor son navigate the healthcare system. Her mom then falls and breaks a hip and Jane now needs help man…[Read more]

Now we have a good idea of what direction to take a new client once we’ve engaged with them. But how does that engagement process happen to begin with? How do they know to call or email us? That’s marketing. Marketing is all about acquiring a client to begin with. It may be the most important task you’ll ever undertake in business, and we’re…[Read more]

I’m taking the test in mid March and all the questions are based on your judgement. I am not a good standardized test taker, but trust in what you know and try to pick the right answer. It’s not a test that has alot of recall.
I wish you the best!

Jennifer, what a great example of what an Advocate can do for a patient! It’s also a fantastic reminder to Advocates to continue learning and/or know when to hand a client off to a more experienced Advocate.
Even though I have handled a lot of claim denials, I do not have much experience when it comes to Medicare claims. However, just as you…[Read more]

Nicole – I really appreciate your words of wisdom. I feel like there is this giant compendium of knowledge and information and I’m still missing pieces… part of that may be just healthcare though!

Good afternoon All!
I encountered a scenario last week where a patient was being billed for a service/supply in which he had signed an Advanced Beneficiary Notice “ABN” prior to receiving the services. While investigating the case, I discovered that the billing staff assumed that just because the patient had signed an ABN, and Medicare had den…[Read more] -
