Hello. I have a client who had a stroke and was admitted to UCLA (Los Angeles, CA) a few weeks ago.

The client is currently uninsured, but has emergency Medi-cal and may be placed on a family member’s insurance if the court will grant a temporary Conservatorship. Both the family and the hospital are having a difficult time finding placement in a post acute SNF. We are asking the hospital to keep the patient until we can find placement in post acute SNF.

The family has prepared a letter stating why they are contesting the discharge. I know the hospital must present a discharge plan in writing to the family. Does anyone know how long the family has to find a SNF before the hospital can discharge the patient?
