Thank you Tammy. I’ll look into the additional cost for commercial auto insurance. I guess that would be a tax write off as well.

Hi Maria –
Yes, I transport my clients who can safely get in/out of my vehicle with little help; i.e. a walker. I choose not to transport clients that use wheelchairs and would require more ‘hands-on’ assistance. I am commercially insured with my auto insurance to provide this service. I have not had them sign a release of liability.
Hope…[Read more]

Great job, Jackie! You hit all the points!
My only suggestions to you are, maybe use older adult instead of senior and you could tweak the sentence about not having a family member near by. It can also include family who may live near by but just can’t be available due to work and/or family obligations, that expands the relatable opportunities for…[Read more] -

This is a great story about your why, and likely many people will be able to relate to it! To maximize the “formula” that Trisha suggests to expand on this further, how does this sound?
I have started a Health Advocacy practice after my husband was misdiagnosed and spent several years in pain. As a physician, I am able to help patients who may…[Read more]

Maria,
Two thoughts:
1. Have you checked with her local area agency on aging for any services they might be able to provide? The agency in my area has many more programs/services than I originally realized.2. Not sure where your client is located but just in case, there is a business, naborforce, that is rapidly expanding that provides “A…[Read more]

As an advocate, do you transport your patients to medical appointments if they do not have transportation and if so, do you have them sign a release of liability or anything? Thank you.

I have a 68 year old patient who is a solo ager and still working full-time. She makes enough to cover her mortgage and living expenses. She’s on Medicare but does not qualify for Medicaid. She has been out of work for almost two months and exhausted all of her PTO and sick leave. The healthcare team has finally found the problem and she is…[Read more]

I own A Peace of Mind advocacy. We provide services to assist and support in navigating the health care system to seniors who may not have a family member nearby. Unlike a hospital advocate, we are able to ensure patients have the information and resources needed to make your own decisions for the care you or a loved one needs.

I have started a Health Advocate practice. My husband was misdiagnosed and spent several years in pain. As a doctor I have seen patients in similar situations so I wanted to help patients understand test results and access additional health options.

I received a call from him, and made the mistake of politely listening to an hour-long sales pitch, waiting for him to get to the point. Similar to your experience, Sherri, he became borderline hostile when I didn’t immediately jump at the chance to give him money to be included in his supposedly very exclusive referral list; I would be “the onl…[Read more]

I’ve worked extensively with a home-bound client in the central coast area of CA. I think resources will largely depend on the area for home visits. Many major medical centers have a “care-at-home” program but they fill up fast. Palliative care may be worth looking into, as they are regularly licensed (and insured) to provide home care as needed…[Read more]

Hi,
I have a patient with severe agoraphobia and panic attacks who hasn’t left her home in 20 years. Her PCP used to come to her home for check-ups but has recently retired. I have exhausted her town and residing towns for options and cannot find anyone willing to do home visits or telemedicine. I am in need of a PCP and gastroenterologist for…[Read more]

If she has an iphone, maybe have her use facetime on her cell to allow you to see and hear the provider as well. If she doesn’t have this capability then maybe you can still have her call and put you on speaker phone to hear. Not ideal but just trying to think outside the box.
