I mostly use Square to collect payments and that has gone well. One client preferred Paypal so I have used that for that particular client. I have also accepted checks.

True confession….
In my past life I was a practice manager for a group of surgeons. We were contracted with PPO’s and HMO’s. I routinely negotiated rates for the most frequently performed procedures. I noticed that some insurers reimbursement was higher than the fee we routinely charged. Much higher. In a meeting with my docs they lamen…[Read more]

I was told by Kyle that Markel was not renewing any policies anymore (last year was my first year with them). I see that some of you have renewed with Markel?? Am I reading the posts correctly. If so, are any of you Licensed nurses, physicians etc. I struggle to get straight answers from Kyle. Hiscox will not underwrite medical personnel ever…[Read more]

Excellent outcomes, Gayle! The lesson here is not taking ‘No’ for an answer. Insurers in many cases will deny procedures in the hopes that they won’t be challenged. Same for providers who attempt to collect from patients with the same hope that they won’t be challenged.
In spite of the myriad of legislations that are to protect patient…[Read more]

Anne,
Good suggestion! I am being interviewed by Marshall Allen later this week but I will think about how to get the word out in other ways.
Thanks,

I use Paypal for payments (not happy with this–will look around at other options this year!). That works for most people.
They also have the option to mail checks, but that always throws off my accounting as I have to manually record those payments and I forget sometimes (then I have to go back & find why my account numbers are off).
I also…[Read more]

We accept credit cards or checks, and also accept Zelle. Most everything is electronic on our end. We also capture a credit card when people sign up so that if they don’t pay their bills we are authorized to charge their credit card. We have not needed to pull the trigger on this often but it is a last resort option to make sure you get paid.

Happy New Year everyone! I am almost ready to pull the trigger-just working on a few loose ends. Can you all chime in with how you receive your payments from patients? Do they mail you a check? Someone had asked a few years ago about Venmo, but it looks like no one responded and she is no longer a participant. What are your thoughts,…[Read more]

Good morning, all!
About 3 months ago I shared an article about how United Healthcare (UHC) was planning on changing its Emergency Department policy to where ED visits were only going to be covered based on select criteria. This change was in efforts to reduce unnecessary ED visits since the cost for ED services are sustainingly hire for the…[Read more]

Be sure that you and/or your client are clear on the differences between an HSA, an HRA, and an FSA. These are completely different financial tools and eligible covered expenses can vary significantly.

One of my long-time clients is the VP of HR for a publicly traded company and he does put our fees for medical advocacy through his HSA account. It was his idea and I have always felt that if anyone should know if this is feasible, it would be someone with this background.
