Welcome aboard, Steph – we’re happy you’re here, too.
One real benefit of this sort of posting is to look at the commonalities we have – and then the variation in our experiences. As you’ve mentioned, we’ll tap into those variations throughout the program.
In particular, you have a rich background in “corporate” advocacy. It will be…[Read more]

What a treat it was to listen in last night! I have Marshall’s book but have not read it yet. I think I need to move it to the front of the line.
I have followed Marshall on LinkedIn and Twitter for a while now and always appreciate his take on the health care system.
Thanks for inviting him to be on the call! -

@trishatorrey Hi Trish, I wanted to ask, since so many members are having issues getting E&O insurance, is APHA considering modifying the requirements to be listed in the directory? I would like to be listed however I was planning on getting E&O insurance to meet requirements and this has not been possible to achieve. Thanks

Melissa – welcome! What a story! While I’m so very sorry that you are dealing with a rare disease, I think lesser people would have let it get the better of them. But not you! I’m so very impressed with your strength.
Over time, you’ll find many others (maybe even others in our cohort?) who have chosen advocacy because they have a story to…[Read more]

Hi Trisha & group,
I’m so excited to learn with you all over the next 100 days.
My name’s Melissa and I’m in western Washington state. I’ve had multiple healthcare-adjacent day jobs since the 90’s: crisis counseling, patient coordination, medical human factors research, and R&D in biotech.
I discovered patient advocacy when I fell ill with a…[Read more]

linda@medicalbillproblems.com replied to the topic Negative Discount??? in the forum SIG – Medical Billing & Claims Forum 3 years, 6 months ago
Hi Melanie
The negative discount was due to the rate the hospital contract with the insurance. The hospital billed less than the contracted rate, so the insurance claim increased the amount of the charge.
There is no resolution yet. We have offered a settlement amount but they have not yet responded.
Thanks for your interest.

Jennifer,
Running reports!!! I don’t miss those at all! Although, I must say that my past life as a practice manager made me a better analyst and strategist that serves me well in not only my current career, but life in general.
My user ID for this site is “no paper cuts.” I used to joke that all I did all day was to “play with paper.” -
