Getting Started with APHA Members Connect!
There are three areas of interest in APHA Connect!
- Forums: this is where all discussions take place – any topic of interest.
- Groups: this is where we house our SIGS – Special Interest Groups. You’ll find SIG discussion forums and SIG resources linked from these pages.
- Members: find information about members individually when they post profile information. You’ll see faces on the right side of the page (or near the bottom if you are connecting on a mobile device.) Just click on them to learn more! You can even “friend” them.
Here are some steps for getting started:
- Begin with the Forums. You can lurk (just read what’s there) or – please feel free to jump into the conversation! Newcomers are always welcome. Once you decide to participate, please make yourself aware of our guidelines and terms of service. Violators will be tarred and feathered (or at least their posts will be removed. 🙂 )
- Set up your profile, including your photo. Now that you’ve found information of interest to you, you’ll know what you would like to include in your profile. Your profile represents you in APHA Connect. Other members will be checking you out and will want to connect with you – maybe even ‘friend’ you. So the approach to completing your profile will be to add your photo (so you will no longer be a little gray icon), and include information that will help others find you If they live and work near you, or have similar interests to you.
- Configure your email notification preferences. We have set up the digest system: daily, weekly, monthly. The default is weekly. However, you may want to be notified of new topics or new groups as they are created – or not. You may only want to know if someone responds to something you post – or not. You may not want any notices at all! Configuring your email settings will ensure that you are notified only when you want to be notified. You may change the frequency of your digest delivery at any time, so you get more emails or fewer emails. (Please note – this only applies to Connect! notices. All other APHA notices including APHA Agenda newsletters will continue as they always do.)
- Introduce Yourself. We have a special Forum set up for just that. We’d love to know more about you. Remember, whatever you write can be searched (internally to myAPHA only) – and that’s an important aspect to APHA Connect.*
That’s it! If you have more questions, check in with us at: info@aphadvocates.org
