Helping a middle-aged woman with Benzodiazepine-Induced Neurological Dysfunction and likely CIRS/toxicity as well. Looking for leads on benzo-wise nueropsychiatrists in Northern California or who will work remotely (may need a CA license), bonus if they have experience in environmental toxicology but not necessary.
Also trying to track down low-frequency MRIs/neurodiagnostic imaging equipment that a person with photophobia and extreme noise sensitivity can tolerate. I’ve found one in East San Jose and one in San Francisco but they’re further south. Does anyone know resources/indices of diagnostic equipment?
More details:
Concurrent issues include Generalized Anxiety, PTSD, Chronic Migraines, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity, Epstein Barr, ADHD, MDD, Patent Foramen Ovale, Cervicalgia, Mast Cell Activation, HSV-2, suspected migrainous infarction and inconclusive markers for Lyme and Bartonella diseaseCurrent symptoms include extremely snowy/blurred vision, tinnitus/hyperacusis, extreme light sensitivity, chronic migraines (sometimes with aura), akathisia (including terror), anxiety, restlessness, claustrophobia, confusion with elements of sundowning, severe insomnia, sleep inertia. Other perceptual disturbances include something akin to depersonalization, wherein she feels her entire consciousness is clouded with the sensation that her “brain is being smothered” or conversely “on fire”. Sometimes she feels completely dissociative and unable to think, a state which she has referred to as a “black fog”.
She has an excellent support system and has tried many tapering approaches, treatments, diets, pharmaceuticals, and supplements over the years and has noted a trend of having bad reactions to the pharmaceutical approaches and insignificant results from functional medicine approaches thus far. Her suffering is increasing daily, and even supplements have begun making her feel worse. My research thus far (including interviewing practitioners in the field) points to toxicity, environmental and/or in her body (eg. CIRS). She feels overwhelmed by the amount of contrasting theories on treatment, afraid of experimenting with medications, and is hoping to find a particularly well-suited neuropsychiatrist to approach her case holistically.
