Your Clients and Long Term Care or Rehabilitation – Tapping Into an LTC Ombudsman

Tuesday, October 6

If your work includes helping older adults who cannot live independently, or anyone who needs rehabilitative care following surgery or illness, you’ve probably encountered clients wondering how to choose a facility or resolve concerns about care there. Or perhaps you have visited a long-term care facility and have seen something that didn’t seem right, but you weren’t sure how you could help.

Long Term Care (LTC) Ombudsman programs exist in all 50 states and US territories to provide information, technical assistance, and advocacy for anyone in a long term care facility. They cover skilled nursing and assisted living facilities, as well as board-and-care homes (sometimes called residential care facilities for the elderly). Ombudsmen are available to help long term care facility residents as well as anyone in residence temporarily for rehabilitation or respite (or anyone representing them).

They can help you help your clients select the right facility, resolve care or service issues, protect residents’ rights, and more. Their services are free and all information is kept confidential.

Linda Beck, BCPA, the principal of Square One Elder and Health Advocacy and an APHA member, will be our guest expert for this call. Linda has been an LTC Ombudsman in California since 2013.She’ll help us understand this excellent resource more in-depth.

Join us to learn how LTC Ombudsman programs can help you provide the best service for your clients.

This handbook along with the workbook took me step by step beginning with a core understanding my own strengths. All of the details that we could easily miss when beginning this venture are covered. No reason to re-invent the wheel. Trisha Torrey has given us directions and a wonderful, strong base to build our business on.

Covers all you need to know to start in private practice as a health advocate and get a good start. It doesn't shunt off financial and business requirements amidst a plethora of hype. This book is just what I needed.

Excellent book and I highly recommend to anyone starting a new business of any kind. Trisha writes with whimsy and fact and once you start you can't put it down. LOTS of wonderful how-to's. She takes you from how to develop your thoughts about your business to the marketing of your business. I can't say enough positives about this book. If you're thinking about getting this...GET IT!
