The more we get into the business parts, and you see that they aren’t rocket science, your confidence will grow!
And – for you, and others who have mentioned it, we’ll address that…[Read more]

Interesting discussion. We worked with an advocate and a nurse case manager through our insurance company when dealing with my daughter’s health issues including multiple rare diseases. In both cases, it only made things more complicated and we spent much of our time educating them.
My business model is based on educating parents rather than…[Read more]

Well done, Christie – and a good assessment of your gaps, all of which we’ll be addressing through the 100 Days program – except the knowledge of the healthcare system.

Welcome Johanna! Thanks for catching up with your introduction 🙂
It’s so interesting that we have three of you – 20% of our group – who live in one specific area of the country! (Must be something in the water? 😉 )
I totally hear you on the “Patients don’t get it”. And – by the way – it’s not just the older patients who have trouble…[Read more]

Hello everyone!
So excited to join this great group! Sorry, I missed day one…I got called into work at the last minute to cover a shift for a co-worker who tested positive for COVID. Ugh, such is life right now.
I currently live in Corvallis, Oregon and plan on moving back to Bend, OR (our hometown) full-time in the next year or two and hope…[Read more] -

As a company that works with several employers I have never understood the model for businesses like Pinnacle. My employers pay the same rate as anyone who hires us directly. We do not operate on a capitated basis as companies like Pinnacle did. Models created by the best MIT software grads couldn’t possibly protect me from promising more than I…[Read more]

Great list here, Stephanie – with a few suggestions for thinking about the parts you aren’t comfortable with…
First – what will help you with so much of it is building confidence, and anything you can do to help you build that confidence will be useful. You can’t be expected to be confident with something brand new (like running a business)…[Read more]

HealthAdvocate has been around for decades, but their model isn’t one we (APHA) would ever recommend, and as Cheryl says above – isn’t necessarily helpful to employees.
They only contract with businesses that have thousands of employees. Their model is to charge very little per employee (like – $1 per month) – and they bank on the odds that only…[Read more]

There are several ‘corporate advocacy companies’ out there. Here is a few who I am aware
Health Advocate:
Pinnacle
Accolade
Quantum
Patient Advocate Foundation (non profit) who helps people for freePinnacle was at ICOPA in 2019. These are companies for people who might want to be an advocate but can’t afford or make it on their own.

I decided I am going to keep my nurse insurance and will talk to a lawyer about the business insurance. I pay a yearly fee that’s not bad. I hope this helps a little.
